A park famous for its wild bison, North America's largest land animal and considered an extinct species.
Caprock Canyon State Park is famous for its protected wild bison. Bison live here in herds and are easy to observe. The bison is the largest land animal in North America, and was once considered an extinct species in the United States, eradicated by settlers to wipe out the bison-dependent native communities of the Great Plains. Today, Caprock Canyon is the only place in Texas where they can be seen.
