DOWNTOWN BROWNSVILLE
Important town in Brownsville with a Greek Revival style information center and a former Southern Pacific warehouse
Brownsville has been an important city since the 19th century thanks to its strategic position facing Mexico and not far from the ocean. The city maintained commercial relations with Matamoros, the neighboring port to the south (on the Mexican side) but also with the great American port of the Gulf, namely New Orleans. As a result, its architecture reflects the influence of these two great poles. Take a tour of the city to see for yourself. Don't miss the Brownsville Heritage Complex (1325 E Washington St) and the Historic Brownsville Museum (641 East Madison Street).
