MONGAR DZONG
Spectacular Mongar dzong with an original shape, houses a fresco depicting the famous Wheel of Life on the floor
The spectacular Mongar dzong, built in 1930 by the late king to replace the Shongar dzong, has an original shape, starting with its two entrances, which is quite uncommon in Bhutan. Composed of a main courtyard, it has in its middle a tower containing several chapels. One of them is dedicated to the protective deities in order to protect the inhabitants of the valley from the demonic forces present in the surroundings. On the second floor, you will notice a fresco representing the famous Wheel of Life.
