Small dzong enlarged by the governor of Trongsa, on a hill overlooking the Kuri river, home to a community of 100 monks
Several times renovated, this dzong is located on a hill overlooking the Kuri River. It is believed to have been founded by Lam Ngagi Wangchuk, a Buddhist master who meditated on the site around 1551 and built a small temple on this site. He would have named it LeyLey Dzong (Goat Fortress) because according to the legend, the master would have seen a white goat before building the dzong and would have interpreted this apparition as a good omen. The small dzong was enlarged in 1654 by the governor of Trongsa. It houses a community of 100 monks.
