CHORTEN KORA
Huge whitewashed monastery inspired by the Bodnath stupa, featuring an XXL statue of Guru Rinpoche
Whitewashed with lime, this monastery would have been built around 1740, inspired by the Bodnath stupa, by a Bhutanese who would have brought back his model, carved in a radish, to avoid the Bhutanese having to go all the way to Nepal. Although smaller than its neighbour in Bodnath, this immense monastery is home to an XXL statue of Guru Rinpoche. The Buddhist master had indeed predicted, after having struck down the demonic forces of the Bumdeling valley, that a very large chorten would be built there. He was right!
