Celebrating the anniversary of the birth of national hero Guru Rinpoche, this festival provides an opportunity to visit Bhumtang.
In the heart of the Bhumtang Valley, Nimalang Tschechu is a three-day festival in June celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Bhutan's national hero, Guru Rinpoche. It begins with the traditional masked songs and dances, but the last day is the most important: it is marked by the display, early in the morning, of a gigantic Guru Tshengye Tungsten to bless those attending the festival. A little later, the monks of Nimalung Dratshang perform dances in honour of Guru Tshengye.
