Hotel open from mid-May to mid-September, with rooms including six family rooms, classic beds or sleeping bag accomodation

Hotel Sandafell is only open from mid-May to mid-September, but it's the best option in the area. It's housed in an old stone house built in 1947, and renovated in 2007 for the opening of the guesthouse. There are 21 en-suite and non-en-suite rooms, including six family rooms, as well as a restaurant. An excellent breakfast is included. Conveniently located not far from the municipal swimming pool, the welcome is also excellent, and the staff are happy to answer any questions you may have.

We started our morning from Drangsnes, checked in here after lunch in Isafjordur. Kind of deserted, but I guess around 50 people live here in Thingeyri. Nothing to do there literally. Just take some rest and be back on the road next morning. Good place to see the Northern Lights. But we weren't lucky. Breakfast is standard in 95% of the places in Iceland. So no further remarks there. It's fine for what it is.

I think I have some mixed feelings about the place even though it actually was a decent place to stay for the night. The room was comfortable, the heating system as in any other location in Iceland was very quick to warm the place up. There was an old radio in the room???? buuuuut i think i'd rather have a kettle, which we didn't have even in the common area. That's where it gets complicated because when we asked the reception, they lent us their one and only kettle and it served us well enough. In the morning it was already back in use for the breakfast buffet. But I think having a kettle in the room is an essential, it felt empty without it.
The common area on the first floor was a bit chilly but comfortable. The bathroom was shared with another room, but it was very clean. Maybe just a bit too cold for my taste.
The breakfast was included, and it wasn't bad, but I had read some reviews that said they had fish and several jams as well. Unfortunately we haven't seen any of that, but I guess it's a seasonal thing and we are kind of late for everything???? so maybe next time.
