VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE
Southend Pier is the city's historic icon and the world's longest pleasure pier! It stretches for 1.33 miles, putting Southend on the map as well as in the record books. Originally built as a 600-foot (180-meter) wooden jetty, resting on oak piles to attract tourism to the town, it was later constructed as the iron jetty we know today. Steeped in history, the pier is a must-see attraction when in Southend. Visitors can take the train or stroll along the footbridge. There's plenty to see and do once you reach the head of the pier. Escape the hustle and bustle of the busy waterfront and take in the breathtaking views of the Kent coast while enjoying an ice cream! Why not treat yourself to a sweet treat in one of the cafés or refreshment outlets? Did you know that the pier is also home to the Southend Lifeboat Station and a gift store? Find out more about their life-saving work at the ever-popular Life at Sea store. Whether you walk, take the train or a combination of both, the pier offers a fun excursion for the whole family!
