Less spectacular than the Wieliczka mine, the Bochnia mine is the oldest in Poland. Its origin dates back to 1248, when the gem was found in the country. Built on 16 levels, the deepest of which is 468 m, it is operated until 1992 and has been designed to accommodate tourists and a spa. There are ancient chapels, salt rooms, mining machinery for mining as well as altars cut in the rock with beautiful statues and paintings.
