CANDY CANGKUANG
A pretty little Hindu temple dating from the century, housing a statue of Shiva and located on the banks of a lake at Cipanas, worth a visit.
10 km north of Garut, on the Bandung road near Leles (3.5 km detour from the main road), Candi Cangkuang is one of the few remaining Hindu temples in West Java. This pretty little temple, dating from the 8th century, is situated on the edge of a lake (Situ Cangkuang) and covered with lilies. The site is pretty, but not an essential stopover either. The temple houses a 62-centimetre-high statue of Shiva, located in the main chamber. Just three meters south of the temple is an Islamic tomb.
