A complex built in the century by the Buddhist Syailendra dynasty, its architecture is reminiscent of royal Atan palaces.
Located around 3 km south of Prambanan, perched on a hill at an altitude of around 200 meters, the Ratu Boko complex was built in the 9th century by the Buddhist Syailendra dynasty, before coming under the influence of the Hindu Mataram kings. Its architecture is reminiscent of kratons, the royal palaces of yesteryear. The area is also home to a vast pond and a series of base stones that were used as building pillars. It also offers a superb panorama of the Prambanan site, not to be missed at sunset.
