CANDY SINGOSARI
To go from Malang, the Landungsari bus station to the north-west of the city, take a mikrolet (minibus) for Singasari, then a becak (cyclo-push) to the temple. Located 12 km north of Malang, in the direction of Surabaya, this temple erected in 1304 was dedicated to King Kertanagera, murdered in 1292. Singosari was the capital of this powerful kingdom. This king drew the anger of Gengis Khan's grandson, Koubilai Khan, for cutting the ears of his ambassadors whom he returned with, tattooed on his forehead, his negative answer. As a result of this affront, the Mongols will flood on Insulindia. Only the summit of the temple is sculpted. The rest of the building had to be abandoned before it was finished. The statues of the temple are visible at the museum of Leyde, Holland.
