SAINT BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH
Church in Lamarche-sur-Saône with twin 52-meter-high steeples and an unusual feature.
St. Bartholomew's would appear to be in the tradition of the great Gothic cathedrals. Yet this is just a church. It was built in the 19th century, not in the Middle Ages. Its double steeple facade is atypical, as this system is normally found on cathedrals. Legend has it that the bishopric of Dijon forbade the architect of this church to build a spire taller than that of Saint-Bénigne. Furious, he built two spires, which, when placed end-to-end, outstripped the Dijon cathedral.
