JEWISH CEMETERY OF MĚSTEC MĚSTEC (ŽIDOVSKÝ MĚSTEC)
This village once welcomed a strong Jewish community, settled here since the beginning of the fifteenth century. The Jewish population was grouped in Kostelecká Street, separated from the rest of the inhabitants by a door. In 1623, the city burned completely and the Jewish quarter was rebuilt a little further. In 1760, a synagogue was built in baroque style, followed by a neo-Romanesque synagogue in 1870. Today we can see an ancient cemetery whose oldest grave dates back to 1647. The neo-Romanesque synagogue still remains and has been recently renovated.
