MONASTERY OF ZLATÁ KORUNA (KLÁŠTER)
This fortified Cistercian monastery was founded by Premysl Otakar II in 1263 to counterbalance the convent built by the Rožmberks, and then reformed in Baroque style in 1663. His successive names - St. Crown and then Crown of Gold - originated one of the thorns of the crown of Christ that Saint Louis would have given to Bohemia King and that the monastery would have sheltered. Among the marvels of this monastery are the magnificent Gothic vaults of the Angels-Keepers Chapel (1285) or the Chapter (1280-90), the cloister decorated with stucco and paintings and the church of l'Assomption-de-la-Virgin, built between 1300 and 1370 but modified since then.
A very pleasant campsite is located near the monastery on a lawn along the Vltava River (Zlatá Kemp Koruna: www.kempkoruna.cz - +420 777 729 444. Open from April to October).
