The Göllü plain is separated from Lake Van by a small mountain. If you cross this mountain west of the village of Çanakdüzü (Komus), 48 km from the center of Tatvan, a nice surprise will be waiting for you on the other side: the monastery of Saint George of Goms. Abandoned in the 19th century, this Armenian monastery dates from the 10th century. It is still the subject of controversy today as to whether it belongs to Turkish territory by the Armenian government.
