THE KIGANDA SITE
Go there and contact
The road that leads to Kiganda is the same as that going to the Site site. 14 km from Muramvya in direction of Gitega, we take a track on the right, after the market of Gatabo, that you continue to a crossroads with a cross. We take left (Rubumba is to the right). Then, we continue on a few hundred meters, straight.
The site of Kiganda, marked today by rocks at which a statue of the Virgin Mary is installed, is a historic site linked to the very beginning of colonization. Here was signed on 6 June 1903 the submission of the Mwami Mwezi Gisabo to the Germans, disguised in agreement (known as the "Treaty of Kiganda"). This'treaty ', when the resistance of Gisabo, weakened by a difficult internal context, had been fierce, coincided with the start of the effective administrative installation of the Germans in Burundi..
Once in Kiganda, don't miss the beautiful religious building, right next to the rocky site.
