RANDONNÉE DE KOKO CRATER
Go there and contact
A more than original, but difficult hike; which takes you to the top of Koko Crater in almost an hour. An advice: make the hike early to avoid the heat because the path, which goes up steeply, is in reality an old railroad whose boards will be your steps. And there will be steps: more than 1,000 of them! This gravity-defying railroad was used to supply the military observation post nestled at the summit. Some elevated passages are particularly impressive because rails are partly suspended in the void and you should not miss... On the way up it's scary but it's much more stressful on the way down. If you are afraid of slipping, get help from a hiker or go down sitting on your buttocks like many tourists do... In short, this hike is hard but it is worth it because the view from the platform at the top of the hill is splendid! The coral of Hanauma Bay stands out under the crystal clear waters lined with coconut trees. And you can tell all the locals you meet that you've done it and they will be full of admiration. Became very popular in recent years with social networks, the authorities are threatening to make it paid or limited by obtaining a permit online, as is the case for Diamond Head since May 2022. At the time of writing this is not yet the case but stay tuned, this could change quickly.
