POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER
Seven reconstructed Polynesian villages that give a glimpse of all the Polynesian cultures in Laie
Seven reconstructed Polynesian villages give us a glimpse of all the Polynesian cultures: Samoa, Aetearoa, Fiji, Hawaii, Tahiti, Easter Island, Marquesas Islands and Tonga. Most of the dancers and actors are from the Polynesian archipelago. Many are even students on Oahu! As you visit the different villages, Polynesian dance and song performances take place (see the program given with the entrance ticket). In each village, the natives of the different islands offer visitors the opportunity to participate in practical workshops on traditions: try your hand at braiding rushes, learn the art of tattooing from the Tahitians, or the art of spearing, or even how to make fire as in Samoa. It's sometimes a bit kitschy but it's an entertaining way to discover the history and traditions of Polynesia, which are both close and very different from each other. Don't miss the chance to chat with the Tahitians, to speak a little French and get their opinion on Hawaii. The luau (Hawaiian dinner show) offers the opportunity to taste almost all the Polynesian specialties, but without a drop of alcohol. The reason? The Mormon Church runs the center! If the food is of average quality, you should know that the show is worth it. Just before entering the village itself, different stands sell Polynesian culinary specialties to eat on the go or various souvenirs.
