CAPTAIN ZODIAC
This agency organizes excursions in Zodiac to Kealakekua Bay (4 hours), with 2 departures per day from Honokohau Harbor (between the airport and Kailua-Kona), at 8:15 am and 12:30 pm. Strong sensations guaranteed on board! The boat's pilots go for it and it's a mess! They also have a great sense of humour and we are not bored for a second.
In season (breeding season, December to April), humpback whales can be observed on the course. It's very impressive because we feel very small with the ten tourists on the small boat! But they are not bad and there is no risk... Once in Kealakekua Bay, everyone puts on their fins, mask and snorkel provided by the crew and goes to admire the magnificent multicoloured fish above the reef, just below the monument dedicated to Captain Cook. After about 30 minutes, everyone gets back on the Zodiac and is entitled to a snack and a salty or sweet snack (included in the price). On the way back, the boat makes a few more interesting stops, especially in front of impressive lava tunnels and caves dug by the sea.
Since 2014 a brand new tour allows you to observe dolphins with long beaks, in the middle of nature, with fins, mask and snorkel, a unique opportunity to swim with them!
Finally, Captain Zodiac's director, Linda Zabolski, of French origin, is fully bilingual. She loves France and will be happy to give you information about the excursions she organizes but also about Big Island that she knows by heart!
