SAINT BENEDICT'S CHURCH
Church built by Catholic missionary John Velge to tell Hawaiians the story of the Bible in pictures
A very pretty church, all white on the outside and colorful on the inside. It is the Catholic missionary, John Velge, who built this church from 1899 to 1904. And it is him who painted the religious scenes that can be seen on the walls and ceiling of the building. His goal was to tell the Hawaiians the story of the Bible in pictures, without using English, which most of the natives did not understand. A mass is celebrated there every weekend. From the entrance, the view on Kealakekua Bay is amazing. Nice picture guaranteed.
