The village of Kamalo is home to three churches including St. Joseph's Church, Kaluaaha Church and Lady of Sorrows Church.
The village of Kamalo is home to three churches:
The Church of St. Joseph. A simple church built in 1876 by Father Damien, the priest of Kalaupapa. Opposite, his statue adorned with lei (flower necklaces) and a plaque commemorating his life.
Kaluaaha Church. A soberly decorated church built in 1835 by the first missionaries to arrive on the island.
Lady of Sorrows Church. Built by Father Damien in 1874. It was restored to its original condition in 1966. A large wooden cross marks the entrance.
