Ernie Smith and Emory B. Bronte made the first flight in history from the United States to Hawaii.
A wooden sign marks the site of a historic crash landing in 1927. Ernie Smith and Emory B. Bronte took off from Oakland on July 14 and were determined to be the first aviators to fly from Oakland, California, to Honolulu. Unfortunately, they ran out of gas and were forced to make an emergency landing on Molokai. Finally safe and sound, they made the first flight in history between the United States and Hawaii. The flight lasted 25 hours and 2 minutes!
