The Plaça de Braus (bullring), located at the top of the modernist Passeig del Firal in the city center, is the oldest bullring in Catalonia. Built on the initiative of the Olotin Esteve Paluzié, the first stone was laid on July 24, 1859. The structure of this solid edifice is made of basalt stone, and the tiers, encircling a 33-meter-diameter arena, are made of brick. Since the banning of bullfighting in Catalonia, this emblematic venue is occasionally used for shows and concerts.
