This modernist route allows you to admire the works of Alfred Paluzie Lucena, the municipal architect of Olot
Alfred Paluzie Lucena, Olot's municipal architect for 11 years, is credited with introducing the broad outlines of modernism. Here's a small selection.
Casa Gassiot (1911-1912 - carrer Sant Rafael, 24). Owned by one of Catalonia's most important families. Of all the houses designed by Alfred Paluzié, this is the one that uses the most medieval decorative repertoire, but framed in a modernist style. Note the covered gallery and the allegorical sculpture referring to radiography, the specialty of the owner, a doctor by profession.
Casa Solà Morales (1913-1916 - Passeig de l'Escultor Miquel Blay, 38). Designed by Luís Domènech i Montaner, whose work includes the Palais de la musique catalane in Barcelona, this is undeniably Olot's finest example of Modernism. Included in the modernist route. The architect has completely restored the building's façade, featuring a gallery of arcades with 12 columns decorated with Valencian ceramic tiles. Two elegant caryatids, sculpted by Eusebi Arnau, stand on the 2 columns that rise to the first-floor balcony.
Casa Gaietà Vila (1901-1905 - Passeig de l'Escultor Miquel Blay, 61). This Alfred Paluzie work features medieval-style battlements crowning the building. These and other details are reminiscent of the castles of the period.
Casa Escubós (1911-1912 - Carrer Major, 25-29). Alfred Paluzié renovated the facade of this house, notably with plant motifs.
