GALLO-ROMAN SITE OF MEDIOLANUM
At the exit of Mâlain, on the road of Ancey, is the ancient agglomeration of Mediolanum. The city was excavated for some twenty years by the Archeological Group of Mesmontois (GAM) and today occupies a vast area in the south-east of the village, at the place La Boussière. The covered gallery of the site reveals the Grande-Rue lined with shops and workshops. The strenuous alleys, hallways and private passages make it possible to access the homes of those who are at the time with kitchens, lounges, cellars and courtyards. The furniture extracted from excavations is visible at the archeological museum of Dijon and at the GAM museum in Mâlain. The site covers many shrines and buildings whose most preserved remains allow the fascinating testimony of historical history: well, stairs, cellars, bread oven, latrines, corporation sanctuary…
