Hassani is a charming man who has been looking after the estate he inherited from his family for over fifteen years. He is developing a range of natural cosmetics available on site or via the online boutique (essential oils, wild turmeric powder, vanilla massage oil...), as well as a nursery business. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, he invites you to spend a unique moment of immersion on his farm (the meeting point is in front of Ouangani town hall). Hassani and his family have been fighting to keep the ylang tradition alive for seven generations. It's a wonderful story: it was by fighting to keep this tradition alive, which was in full decline at the time due to competition from Madagascan and Comorian ylang-ylang production in Mayotte, that Hassani succeeded in making the business flourish. In the 70s, there were over 1,000 hectares of ylang-ylang cultivation on the island; today, only a meager 50 ha remain. Ylang-Ylang days", family packages and several workshops are on the program, making for a fun visit that appeals to all ages. Beauty masks with a hostess, traditional songs, breakfast with fruit and Mauritian cakes. On the didactic side, you'll learn how to weave coconut leaves to make baskets called "KANGA", how to fertilize vanilla flowers, plant cuttings and distillation, interspersed with lectures, and hikes to the peaks. All this culminates in a grand local buffet with mataba (cassava, coconuts, onions, garlic cloves, and possibly chillies and fried fish). Wellness enthusiasts can opt for the TOP gommage, made with henna and shredded coconut, a treat usually reserved for the bride and groom in the week leading up to the big day. All activities are open to children and can be booked on the website (payment, choice of date, number of people). Hassani's plans for 2024 include creating a self-guided tour of the garden, building a boutique and offering spice workshops. As such, Hassani is one of 15 project leaders selected by the Agence d'attractivité et de Développement touristique de Mayotte to receive specific training in immersive stays. We're looking forward to working with him!

Here is a visit that I strongly recommended for anyone wishing to spend a super day and learn a bit more the culture and traditions mahoraises in a magnificent square in the heart of a plantation of ylangs and at the foot of the smoking still. The ambience and a breakfast and lunch typical mahorais, in the heart of the enchanting smells of the ylang being distilled make a day magic. A real delight!
