A beautiful tribute to the war between the Aetas and Christians, re-enacted for the occasion in the form of dances and rituals.
The Binabayani festival pays tribute to the war that took place in Masinloc (60 km from Olongapo) between the Aetas and the Christians. Binabayani, in the local dialect, means "bravery". This battle is re-enacted in the form of dances and rituals every year on the day of San Andres, the town's patron saint. Participants parade in breathtakingly beautiful traditional costumes. Some legends say that if the Binabayani is not celebrated, misfortune such as a natural disaster will strike.
