In 1346, the German emperor Karl IV became the owner of the premises. He made many transformations and added a Gothic church with his graveyard. In the th century, the mount was severely affected by lightning and all became ruins. It was only in the th century, that we learned of these buildings, thanks to many painters, such as Caspar David Friedrich. They were fascinated by the beauty of these ruins and by the so romantic atmosphere that came out of them - and still escape.
