In the heart of downtown, Ancestor Square is home to a dozen buildings, more than half of which are listed on the St. George Register of Historic Places. Among them: Sheriff Hardy's house - 1877 -, the city's first jail - 1880 - or the Gardener's Club Hall - 1863. The square is also home to several restaurants and art stores, while there are a few buildings not to be missed nearby, such as the Old Washington County Courthouse - 1876 - and Brigham Young Winter Home and Office - 1831.
