CAPELA DE SANTO ANDRÉ
This chapel, built in 1875 by whalers in honor of St. Andrew, was the first one founded on the island of São Pedro
Supposed to be the very first chapel built on the island, this chapel which does not look like much is nevertheless part of the heritage. It was built in 1875 by the whalers at a time when fishing was allowed and named in honour of Saint Andrew himself, a fisherman, to thank him for his good catches. The historian José de Sena Barcellos mentions its existence in a book written in 1892. This church, dear to the hearts of the people, is very popular on Sundays, but has suffered a visible state of degradation. It was reopened in 2020 and the Rotary Club is responsible for its renovation.
