ROYAL MAUSOLEUM (КРИПТА ЦРКВЕ СВ ЦРКВЕ)
It was under King Pierre I's reign that the project of St. George's Church and Mausoleum was launched. In 1904, the cornerstone was laid and the charter dedicated to Saint George is integrated into foundations. After several tergiversations, it was finally the architect Kosta J. Jovanović who took the construction project on May 1, 1910. On 1 September of the same year, the foundations were completed and in 1911 the church already has its main dome. Its white marble facade is extremely bright and, funny, its bells come from the Paccard foundry, formerly located in Annecy-le-vieux. Embarrassed by the various Balkan wars and the Great War, the construction of the church will take place over several years. It was finally enshrined in 1930. Pierre I, who died in 1921, will never attend the completion of his project.
Inside the church there are copies of frescoes depicting some biblical scenes as well as kings and saints. In the crypt, we discovered the graves of about twenty people from the Karađorđević lineage, of which, of course, Pierre I and the founder of the dynasty, Georges'the black'Petrović.
