CAVES ROYALES (КРАЉЕВА ВИНАРИЈА)
The idea of Pierre I of Serbia was to plant vineyards from the best European vines over a surface of 30 hectares. 150 000 hectares have been planted, a good part of which are grape varieties. Alexander I, son of Pierre, founded the royal cellars inspired by the model of French-style wine cellar. Etalées on two underground floors, the barrels have been preserved to date. Some wines are the oldest still preserved in Serbia and some bottles dating back to 1931 are marked with a royal seal. Long neglected, the royal vineyards had a renaissance from 2000 and it was since 2007 that the royal beverage was once again tasted.
