A long time ago, Keimon, a Buddhist sculptor who had come to enjoy the warm waters of Kinosaki, saw in the river a statue of Juichimen Kannon, the deity of compassion, which he had begun, but never completed, and which he had got rid of a few days earlier. He then decided to finish the statue and the monk Dōchi-shōnin built this temple to preserve it. It is still in the temple and is only shown to the public 3 years every 33 years (last appearance from April 23, 2018 to April 22, 2021).
