The history of this craft goes back to the early 18th century, when a traveller named Hanhichi, who came from the province of Tottori, began to create objects from straws to resell and finance his journey. The technique consists of weaving straw dyed in colour to form patterns to be used as decoration on objects. The museum presents creations from the Edo, Meiji, Taishō and Shōwa eras, as well as more modern works. It also offers workshops.
