GRENEN
A magnificent place, much sought-after by tourists for its fascinating spectacle: the turbulent meeting of two seas.
It's a bit like the end of the world, at least... the end of Denmark! This is where the Baltic Sea and the North Sea meet. It is a beautiful place... Where many tourists meet. Because of a very strong sea current, it is strongly disadvised to swim there. You can get there by bus: departure from the station of Skagen. Drivers park in the parking lot of the nearby cafeteria. From there, you can walk along the coastline to the tip (about 30 minutes walk), or take the Sandormen tractor and its wagon that provides transfers.
When you arrive in Grenen, you will be amazed by the astonishing spectacle of the turbulent meeting of two seas that constantly shape the coastline of the Cape. You can step into the (cold) water, and the great game is to have one foot in the North Sea (which here takes the name of Skaggerak) and the other in the Baltic (or more precisely the Kattegat, named after the inland sea between Sweden and Denmark). The two seas literally collide, in an endless confrontation, an amazing ballet of powerful tidal bores.
Beware of seals, which may be there: do not disturb them or try to approach them! The best time to appreciate this unique place is in the morning, before the arrival of the first tractor (at 9 am), when only birds and seals are present... After Grenen, you can also visit the astonishing German bunker that watched over this strategic place during the Second World War.
