CRAIGHTON ESTATE GREAT HOUSE
Georgian-style house set in a vast coffee plantation estate, a Craighton property, to visit in Irish Town.
The Craighton property, named after its owner George Craighton, is over 200 years old. The Georgian-style house is set 792 meters above the sea, on 80 hectares. An ideal place for coffee growing, where time has not altered the know-how of yesteryear and the secret of a unique and tasty drink. Although the property is now in the hands of Ueshima Coffee Company (UCC), a Chinese company, the coffee plantation remains and is marketed in small quantities as an exceptional product. It is classified by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. You will find its path easily marked from the main road from Irish Town to Newcastle, just past the Blue Café.
Visit the plantation. During this guided tour of approximately one hour, guests will learn about the cultivation of the black gold, its cycles and properties, where it gets its unique flavor, and the passionate guide is keen to make it interactive. We learn all about its harvest, its aromas and varieties and its roasting. The discovery of the plantation, after a 10-minute walk, leads to a panoramic viewpoint that you will not forget. Of course, the visit would not be complete without a visit to the authentic production workshop, still in operation, and without a tasting of this singular arabica, recognized throughout the world for its gustatory properties...
