This cultural centre preserves the identity, history and traditions of the Yakama Indian Nation, which occupies part of the valley and has 14 tribes and 10 400 members. The centre is divided into several entities. The library, where you can come to research the history of the Yakama people. The restaurant, Heritage Inn, serves many Indian specialities at a very good price - also a salad bar. Finally, the museum, open 1980, explains who is the Yakama nation and how it has lived on these lands for hundreds of years. We will also learn that the reserve on which the Yakama live is governed by their own laws and operates in an autonomous manner in terms of justice, health or education. For example, it is forbidden to drink alcohol on the reserve.
