CATHEDRAL ST. HELENA
Built in 1908 by Bishop John Carroll, the Cathedral is an outstanding example of neo-Gothic architecture, inscribed in the National Register of Historic Sites since 1980.
Among the attractions, its fifty-nine stained glass windows, the famous German artist, Franz Xaver Zettler, specialize in Bavarian glass painting. Thirty-seven of them take up catechism classics, including the fall of Adam and Eve. You can also admire the white marble altars, Carrara marble statues, the sanctuary decorated with genuine gold leaves. Oak banks and wood paneling are a fine piece of work. The beautiful bronze luminaires, also hand made by hand, are particularly impressive. Outside, the twin towers are 70 meters high. True for a European, however majestic, the cathedral remains a classic of an urban visit, but let us remember that churches in the United States are rarely historical or thought-oriented in a classic style. The cathedral of St. Helena is therefore a unique monument giving the city small European cities. If you want to attend a mass, daily offices take place Monday to Friday at 7:00 a. m., Tuesday to Thursday an additional office at 12 h, Saturday at 9 a. m. and 5:15 p. m., and Sunday at 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m. and 11 a. m.
