WORLD MUSEUM OF MINING
The museum was founded in 1963, at the end of Butte's gold rush, which has been recognized as one of the world's most productive copper mining cities. The museum preserves and values this unique heritage. Based on an ancient silver, lead and zinc mine (the Orphan Girl Mine), the museum provides an overview of life in the mining camp at the time and minor work. Some of the attractions to be missed:
Underground mine tower. The tour in two options (the tower at the first three-quarters hour of an hour or a second-hour visit) will take you to the depths of the old Orphan Girl mine.
Hell Roarin 'Gulch. Stroll through this faithful revival of a mining town of the 1890 s with 15 original historical structures and 35 buildings built from old materials gathered by the museum from the 1960 s to the 1980 s and built by volunteers. Push the doors and discover the pieces entirely decorated with objects and antique furniture. Don't miss school and church.
The exhibitions. Several exhibitions on life at the time, including Miners Memorial Wall & Remembering Garden, dedicated to more than 2,500 men who lost their lives in the underground mines of Butte.
