The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is located in northern Minnesota, in the Superior National Forest. It spans over a million acres along the international border, adjacent to Quetico Provincial Park in Canada, and is bordered to the west by Voyageurs National Park. The BWCAW boasts 1,175 lakes of various sizes, over 1,200 miles of canoe routes, 12 hiking trails and more than 2,000 designated campsites. It's the most visited wilderness area in the country, with around 250,000 visitors a year. Permits are required to canoe or camp in the area. Motors are only allowed in certain designated areas, and groups are limited in size. Glass bottles and cans are prohibited. Canoe guides can help you plan your itinerary, choose campsites and provide all necessary equipment. BWCAW offers an experience of solitude and integration with nature.
