THE BEACHES
A series of beaches in the town of Gokarna, still almost untouched in places, the most beautiful of which are to the south, 6 km away
You will come to Gokarna for its beautiful beaches still almost wild in places. In season, you will not be alone, far from it. Nevertheless, nothing to do with the crowd of Goa. Out of season, you will share the beach with Indian tourists who come to frolic in the sea in their clothes. The most beautiful beaches are located south of Gokarna, about 6 kilometers away. You will need a scooter or auto-rickshaw to get there.
Main Beach: Gokarna beach stretches for several hundred meters along the coconut trees. Not very clean, it is rather the goal of a walk along the beach than a place to spend the day sunbathing.
Kudle Beach : visible from the road above, Kudle Beach is a quiet beach that offers the most beautiful sunsets in the area. Accessible only by foot, you'll have to take a steep path from Namaste Yoga Farm to get there. More and more resorts are developing and Kudle Beach is slowly but surely growing. In season, the beach is full of vendors selling trinkets. However, it remains very pleasant.
Om Beach : these two small bays are accessible by road. You will only have to go down a few steps from the parking lot. Swimming is dangerous, even forbidden in the rocks and the currents can be powerful. The government shows the number of deaths per year on this beach. Lined with coconut palms and shady trees, it is ideal for sunbathing and beach sports (freesbee, snowshoes, diabolo, sand castles...). Some "resorts" of bamboo huts host a youth full of tattoos and piercings and, in season, the beach is transformed into a large hippie vacation camp. There are shacks (beach bars) along the beach, where you can sip a cold beer, or a fruit juice, and have a bite to eat while looking at the horizon...
Half Moon Beach : south of Om, this beach is accessible by a path, after a 30 minutes walk. Fine sand and a few very basic huts make it a refuge for modern-day Robinson Crusoes.
Paradise Beach : an hour's walk south of Om Beach, be prepared to go up and down to reach this small beach. Bring good shoes, as the path is steep and rocky and snakes are not uncommon. The government destroyed the few huts that were built here. There is nothing left but sand to put your towel and picnic basket on.
