CHATHAM SAW MILL
The first island with a fort, linked by a bridge from Haddo Wharf, the mill, the Forest Museum, the bomb crater to see.
Chatham was the first island to house a fort, before the English moved further north. When they returned to Port Blair, they built a sawmill powered by a mill on the island in 1836. Today, the island is linked by a bridge from Haddo Wharf. A visit to the mill, coupled with a visit to the Forestry Museum, provides an insight into the economic development of the islands and the exploitation of their forest resources. A bomb crater, a legacy of the Second World War, can be seen on the path alongside the museum.
