The absolute slam dunk of Mt Whitney Restaurant is the location to the Dow hotel right across the street.

What to expect: This is a casual neighborhood/passerby restaurant on the main strip through town. It is not fast food. I did receive my order in 12 minutes. The atmosphere is relaxed with black and white or sepia photos of old western movie stars… although I did see a Clint Eastwood photo… I am not that old. ????. It appears to be a bit of a local spot too. This diner is located close to hiking and most notably Death Valley.

About the Food: I expected something a little higher end to be completely transparent. The venison burger I received was a bit strange in texture, possibly freezer burned a little. I did not finish my onion rings, everything just seemed fast food or frozen type food. I’d love to see a place like this make a dish or two for a signature taste and feel. Unfortunately this was not what “The Typical Tourist” should expect.

Absolutely loved the decor, there’s nothing better than paying homage to historic figures in the way Mt Whitney Restaurant does. It is convenient, needs work on food, at least the burger.

You will get great personable service when you sit down, in that area, home run.

They have a sign by the front door that says "Warm beer, bad food, lousy service" At least they're honest

Mt. Whitney really exceeded our expectations. I give the food 3 stars only because it's basically what you'd expect at a diner/grill--but I have to say I really liked that they nailed the basics. I ordered the fried chicken dinner and it was a lot of food -- salad, 4 pieces of chicken not at all small like another review stated), potato options and a veggie. My partner order the pulled pork and loved it. The service was very friendly. I recommend.

Location caratteristica. Ottima accoglienza. Ho mangiato il solito "hamburgerazzo" americano ed era ottimo. Se siete in zona e dormite lì, sicuramente è un locale che consiglio.

Stay away from the meatloaf. Everything else is great.

Local " greasy spoon" Hardy fare, wonderful photos

My husband's meat loaf actually looked gross. He said it didn't taste well either. I'm surprised he actually ate it. My hamburger was good. The service was good, but the prices were astronomical. In our opinion

I visited this place late at night with a friend. We shared the appetizer bowl which consisted of mozzarella sticks, fish sticks, chicken tenders and jalapeño poppers. Great stuff.

I decided to go with the "Black Rock" for my meal. It basically is a bacon cheeseburger with a side of homemade chili beans and homemade BBQ sauce. 10/10 would go again. Bacon is thick diner grade goodness.

Staff were incredibly nice and regularly refilled our beverages.

They also have an ice cream parlor and barside which I want to check out next time.

Damn good turkey dinner. Freshly roasted turkey, mashed tatos & gravy. Service was fabulous. Enjoyable every time we go.

We stopped here for breakfast around 9am last Friday. Heidi was our server, and also the reason for the 1 star rating. If she waits on you, take the opportunity to say everything when you order, because that will be last time you see her. There was a brief drive-by food drop off, but that was it.
I ordered scrambled eggs, but received over-easy. Not a big deal, but the waitress never came back.
*Important *, you will not receive a check! You will need to go up to the front and ask to pay. This would have been awesome to know as we waited like chumps, with empty coffee/ water glasses that never got refilled for a waitress sighting. The most incredible part was that there were only 4 other tables seated.
There is also a 3.99% fee for using a credit card.
The food was not that good, & certainly not good enough to put up with horrible service. I still kick myself for leaving a tip. Second poor decision I made that morning. We will not go back there ever again.

They do have the best burger in town ????

Food is average along with the service. Waitress was just doing her job it seemed and was kind of impatient. Maybe just having a bad day. View of mountain range is beautiful here though.

Should have a sign on the door saying ‘we hate tourists’. After waiting in the dismal entrance we were eventually approached by a waitress who has the speed and grace of a shopping cart with broken wheels. As she figured out we were not local we were sent to sit on our own and watch the sad looking dishes appear slowly for other customers. Eventually we left to go somewhere nice with smiling staff, some healthy menu options and deservedly higher ratings. Alabama Hills cafe and bakery down the street was fantastic so thank goodness we evacuated the miserable Mount Whitney.

This was a recommendation from the hotel front desk. We ordered two hamburgers and a grilled cheese sandwich. It was good. Restaurant and bar. Old West theme. Lots of memorabilia all over the walls. It's kind of a blast from the past. Food was good. Just a heads up they charge almost a 4% fee for using a credit card or debit card. Highly recommend paying cash.

We were on the road heading home after our trip to Tahoe and needed to find dessert. It was 840 and the restaurant closed at 9. They welcomed all 5 of us to enjoy their menu. The kids had sundaes and we shared a peach pie a la mode and carrot cake. All were delicious! The server was very friendly and the next time we are in the area we will try their "best burgers in town".

4% Credit Card fee is undisclosed before tapping the card. Very disappointing. It needs to be on the menu next to the 18% gratuity included for parties of 6 or more.

The kitchen would really benefit from some salt and pepper. The gravy is bland, the turkey "sausage" is bland, and the ham omelet is bland. There was no salt at the table either.

The old western film pictures on the wall were interesting.

I'll be going elsewhere for breakfast next time I'm in lone pine.
