Molesme Abbey has been renovated and the work continues to this day, remaining a beautiful place to see.
The history of Molesme Abbey makes it one of the most important in Europe. In 1098, 22 monks set out from here to found the abbey of Cîteaux. With over 300 monks at its peak, Molesme was plundered and destroyed on several occasions, notably during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion. During the French Revolution, it was used as a stone quarry. For this reason, few of the original buildings remain today. Nevertheless, the owner offers tours of this heritage nugget.
