Delightful and comfortable.
The communal areas are beautiful, lobby and breakfast room in art nouveau style.
The rooms are in need of refurbishment (bedroom ceiling with marks, and bathroom ceiling chipped probably due to water damage or excess humidity. However the rooms are clean and spacious.
The hotel is very well located on a main street where it is easy to park and where the tram passes which makes it easy to get to the hyper centre.
The proprietor, Tesh (not proper Belgian spelling but how his name sounds in English), is very friendly and eager to share the history of this magnificent architectural and design jewel. He was also very helpful in providing a map and directions to the alt stadt that was my primary destination.
I was in the attic, whose low ceilings were a bit of a challenge for a clumsy fellow such as myself. That aside: the views of the city from the slanted roof windows were extremely nice, and the windows allow one to experience the changes of light as day progresses to night.
My only note of caution, if such a word is appropriate: the age of the building precludes the presence of an elevator, necessitating the use of a steep stairwell to access the upper floors. This is not a place suitable for people who are not fit or who can not climb steeo flights of stairs.
Really liked this place!
