MUSEUM VLEESHUIS
Museum in the former butchers' house with instruments and models of 600 years of music and dance in Antwerp
The Butchers' House (Vleeshuis) is a majestic late-Gothic hall (1501-1504) that belonged to the Butchers' Guild. Meat was stored in the basement and sold under the high vaults on the first floor. Today, the building houses a museum that documents 600 years of music, sound and dance in the city (a far cry from the original vocation!). Superb instruments, paintings and models tell the story of the minstrels. There's sacred music, military marches and even the ambience of twentieth-century cafés chantants.
