HOUSE SNIJDERS & ROCKOX
House of Nicolas Rockox burgomaster of Antwerp, presenting paintings among which those of his friend Rubens, works of art and furniture
The house of Nicolas Rockox (1560-1640), mayor of Antwerp, friend and protector of Rubens, has been as well restored as that of the painter. The man was well versed in science, art and literature, and his house is a fine example of the rich Flemish culture of the time. It is full of numerous paintings (Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, Bruegel...), various works of art and furniture from the 16th and 17th centuries on all floors. There is also a charming courtyard with Renaissance arcades around a small garden.
