15th century: works by Jan Van Eyck, Roger Van der Weyden... Also a masterpiece by Jean Fouquet: Mary and Jesus surrounded by seraphim and cherubim. In this painting, Mary is portrayed as Agnès Sorel, the mistress of Charles VII. In room 2.22, you'll see a restored triptych by Memling: God the Father surrounded by singing and musical angels.
16th-17th centuries: during this period, Antwerp became a major center of trade as well as art. The production and quality of works from this century is remarkable. The museum's collection includes paintings by Quinten Metsijs, including the superb Lamentation of Christ triptych; Frans Floris, influenced by Italian Renaissance art and who introduced mythological themes to the Netherlands; and Marten De Vos. From the 17th century, Rubens, Jordaens and Van Dyk. The museum houses 21 paintings and sketches by Pierre-Paul Rubens, the most famous of the Flemish Baroque painters.
