BOTANICAL GARDEN (KRUIDTUIN)
Quiet scientific botanical garden with a collection of 2,000 plants and trees, ideal for walking and picnicking
At the beginning of the 19th century (in 1825), this garden of barely one hectare was used for the school of surgery, pharmacy and botany which belonged to the neighbouring St. Elizabeth Hospital. Today it has acquired the status of a scientific botanical garden, but it is still a very quiet and pleasant place to walk and picnic. The garden houses a collection of 2,000 plants and trees, including a greenhouse called the Cactus and Succulent Plant Conservatory.
